About Me

So Brena, what exactly are you doing with your life?" Isn't that the million dollar question that so many people get asked and most of the times they don't have a concrete idea or plan?! Well this is exactly the same question my friends, family, and I have asked myself many many times. During my time in college, I had friends who were computer science majors, dated a guy who majored in science, and even made small websites for my sorority and various HTML/CSS projects. However, I never thought I was capable of majoring in a "science" field, because I never even considered it or had anyone nudge me in this direction.

Fast forward to graduation, I graduated from my undergraduate in May 2015 and continued on to get my Master's degree in Higher Education. I worked as a Residence Hall Director during grad school, so I was surrounded by some pretty smart and annoying college students. However, I realized that I could not see myself working in this environment for the rest of my career, so I pivoted!

After graduating from grad school, I moved to Nashville, TN and worked for a hotel and a small marketing agency. During this time, I met my boyfriend and he urged me to learn coding. After some time, we moved to California and I enrolled in a coding bootcamp to become a fullstack engineer! Coding bootcamp honestly kicked my butt, but I learned so much more and faster than without it. After graduating from my bootcamp, Covid-19 happened, so it sent the entire world into a panic, but I have continued to work on projects, learn more about Java, and been optimistic.

When I am not glued to my laptop, I enjoy going on hikes and especially at Yosemite National Park! I try and workout every single day, except for weekends. I have two fluffy cats (you can follow their instagram HERE. I am obsessed with anime and Japanese culture. I can beat you at Harry Potter trivia. I am a #Swiftie.
